RB Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt has spent much of his footballing journey under the spotlight of being branded the natural successor to Thibaut Courtois. Both goalkeepers share a common background, having developed through the youth ranks at Belgian side KRC Genk before taking on major European challenges.
Having emerged from the same academy that shaped Courtois, Vandevoordt has had to deal with intense public expectations and parallels drawn between them since his childhood days. Yet, despite entering a new phase of his career in Germany, the young shot-stopper remains firm in dismissing these persistent evaluations, stating clearly that any direct comparison is simply impossible.
Now continuing his development with RB Leipzig, Vandevoordt is determined to carve out his own identity on the pitch. While acknowledging the inevitable links stemming from their shared Genk roots and Belgian heritage, the custodian is focused entirely on his personal path and establishing himself at the highest level of European football.
